Overview
About the Unit
The Training Division facilitates training for Beckley Police Department personnel and manages the department’s firearms and training facilities, which are vital to multiple law enforcement agencies in the region.
Training at the Beckley Police Department is a team effort. Captain Jamie Blume leads the division, supported by a cadre of gifted, qualified, and experienced instructors from within the department’s own ranks.
We are dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth within policing, empowering officers to excel in their roles and serve the community with professionalism and integrity.

Captain Jamie Blume, Training Coordinator
Captain Jamie Blume
Captain Jamie Blume began his law enforcement career in 2000 as a United States Marine Corps military police officer. He left military service as a Marine Sergeant and a combat veteran of the Global War on Terror, and began his tenure with the Beckley Police Department in 2006. Since then he has served as a patrol officer, detective, Special Deputy U.S. Marshal assigned to a Fugitive Task Force, dog handler, and patrol supervisor.
Throughout his career Captain Blume has been recognized for exemplary performance. His personal awards include the Fraternal Order of Police Distinguished Service Award, lifesaver awards, the West Virginia Police Canine Association State K9 Officer of the Year Award, and numerous other commendations.
He is a qualified expert in several disciplines and holds more than forty law enforcement instructor certifications. He earned a master’s degree in public safety from Liberty University, a graduate certificate in criminal justice education from the University of Virginia, and a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from WVU Tech. He is a graduate of the United States Army Military Police School, the West Virginia State Police Academy, and the FBI National Academy.
