About the Unit
The Community Resource Officer connects the Beckley Police Department with the schools and neighborhoods it serves. Pfc. Adam Justice has held the position since January of 2025 and also serves as the department’s DARE Officer.
The Beckley Police Department believes that strong relationships of mutual trust between officers and the community are critical to maintaining public safety and effective policing. Police officials rely on the cooperation of community members to provide information about crime in their neighborhoods, and to work with the police to devise solutions to crime and problems in the community.

What This Unit Does
Teaches the DARE curriculum in local elementary schools
Instructs fifth grade classes on the health effects of alcohol and tobacco
Covers risks and consequences, bullying, effective communication, and help networks
Serves every elementary school inside Beckley city limits and those feeding Park and Stratton Middle Schools
Builds working relationships between the department and the neighborhoods it serves

Pfc. Adam Justice, Community Resource Officer
P.F.C. Adam Justice
Pfc. Adam Justice has been the Community Resource Officer of the Beckley Police Department since January of 2025. He is a native of Boone County and a graduate of Sherman High School, class of 1998, and West Virginia University, class of 2002, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies. He also graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2005 with a Master of Divinity and served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church from 2005 to 2018.
Justice joined the Beckley Police Department in November of 2020 and graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy in May 2021. Upon graduation he was assigned to road patrol duties. He was promoted to Patrolman First Class in November 2022 and has served on the Beckley PD Crime Scene Unit since 2022. He was also the Domestic Violence Officer from May 2023 through January 2025.

The DARE Program
What DARE Covers
Pfc. Justice attended DARE training in August of 2024. Since then he has worked with hundreds of local children on the health effects of alcohol and tobacco, risks and consequences, effective communication, bullying, help networks, and other topics.
The theme of DARE is teaching children to make safe and responsible decisions in all aspects of life.
Which Schools Are Served
DARE is offered to every elementary school within Beckley city limits, and to the elementary schools that feed into Park and Stratton Middle Schools. Pfc. Justice teaches the curriculum to fifth grade classes.
